He served as a Gunner on the B-17 'The Club 105' with the 463rd Bombardment Group of the 15th Air Force. From bases in Italy, he was in many campaigns during the liberation of Europe, until he was sadly lost over the Balkans on June 14th, 1944 during an aerial mishap.
