99th Checkerboard Group that was the spearhead of Battle of the Bulge and captured when all their ammunition was depleted and surrounded by German soldiers. Taken to Dachau Concentration Camp and then to a soldier concentration camp. Upon the end of the war, he came back to Kentucky, and sent monies back to the Belgium's Widows and Orphan Home. He was awarded several Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and several other medals.
