He served as an Infantryman in the 45th Division being wounded four times in action. He was wounded March 18, 1944 in Italy, August 15, 1944 in France and again five days later in France. On December 19, 1944 he was wounded in both legs while in Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart with three Oak Leaf clusters, the Silver Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
