Enlisted in 1939. Served in the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Mediterranean and in North Africa on a minesweeper and then a destroyer escort. Participated at D-Day, the Liberation of the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The boat was almost sunk by a kamikaze in 1945. Awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct medal and WWII Victory medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, American Campaign Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
