Served aboard the carrier USS Bunker Hill. He was the non-commissioned officer in charge of the VA section on board that serviced all weapons, bombs etc. on aircraft. He was one of only two compartment survivors when two kamikaze attacks slammed into the ship within 45 seconds on each other and almost blew the ship out of the water. He received the Presidential Unit citation and Combat ribbon.
