Entered the Navy during WWII as a member of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) and served in the active Navy one year from 1945 to 1946 for the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a Yeoman Second Class (stenographer) after attending Naval Training School in Bronx, New York.
