He proudly served in the Army during WWII beginning October 15, 1942, with Company A, 315th Medical Battalion as an ambulance driver in the Medical Corps. He was in the second wave on Normandy, and shortly thereafter severely injured in June 1944. After almost a year of recovery from his injury in a military hospital, he was honorably discharged on May 31, 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Normandy Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, and Northern France Campaign Medal.
