Activity During WWII

In February 1941, He enlisted in the Army Air Forces hoping to become a pilot, but color blindness prevented that. Instead, he went to radio school, and was commissioned in October 1941. He landed in Manila with a bomber group as Communications Officer on Thanksgiving that same year. He was on Bataan, Luzon Island, Philippines when it fell 09 April 1942. He evaded capture and eventually organized a guerrilla force in the mountains west of Clark Field, Where they resisted for 2 1/2 years. The information his group gathered was sent by submarine to American authorities and used in retaking the island in 1945. he was discharged in April 1946.
