Activity During WWII

Enlisted 25 June 1940 at Louisville, Kentucky. Reported aboard the USS Minneapolis (CA-36) a New Orleans Class Cruiser. Was 8 miles off Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. January 1942 raid on Gilbert and Marshall Islands. May 1942 at the Battle of Coral Sea. June 1942 at the Battle of Midway. December 1942 at Battle of Tassafaronga. Transferred to the USS Carter Hall (LSD-3) Commissioning crew on 18 September 1943. Took part in the invasion of Guadalcanal, Saipan, Guam, Tacloban, San Pedro Bay, Leyte, Brunei Bay, Philippine Islands. Occupation duty at Shanghai and Sasebo, Japan. Transferred for discharge on 1 July 1946. Rating of Boatswain's Mate second Class Petty Officer.
