He served as a Private in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 397th Infantry Regiment, Second Battalion, Company E, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War and was detained by Germany from January 8, 1945 to June 10, 1946. He was held at Stalag 9B Bad Orb Hessen-Nassau, Prussia.
