He joined the United States Army Air Corps at the Fort Sam Houston recruiting center in June 1940 to support the war effort. After basic training and flight training he was transferred to the European Theater of Operations as a bomber crewman. He flew 20 missions over Europe. He was killed in action on a flight on March 29, 1944 just prior to the surrender of Germany.
