Rank: Corporal. On November 11, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps at Denver, Colorado. His boot camp training took place with Ninth Recruit Battalion, Training Regiment; Marine Corps Base in San Diego, California. Later he completed his Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Served as a Rifle Team Leader with the First Marine ‘the Old Breed’ Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations, assigned to Headquarters Company, Second Battalion and Seventh Marine Regiment. His division participated in the Battle of the Palau Islands, against the Imperial Japanese Army forces. The combat engagement took place on the Island of Peleliu (Battle Dates: September 15-November 25, 1944), Code Name: Operation Stalemate II. Killed in action Wednesday, September 20, 1944 and buried in the United States Armed Forces battlefield cemetery on Peleliu. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, the family of this Marine received his remains for burial. He was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
