When the war began in Europe he wanted to do his part to serve his country. He was sworn into the United States Army at the recruiting center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. After completing his basic training he was assigned to a unit in the European Theater of Conflict. He served until 1945 when he was returned to the United States and received his honorable Discharge at the Fort Sam Houston disbursement base and returned to his hometown of Laredo.
