He wanted to join the service and go to the aid of his country. He was sworn into the military at the military recruiting center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He attended basic training receiving infantry, small arms, artillery and rifle training before being assigned to combat in North Africa and Central Europe. He was wounded in the battle of the Ardennes and transferred back to the United States where he received an Honorable Discharge with commendations.
