Rank: Platoon Sergeant. On January 13, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps from Ohio. His boot camp training took place with the Fifth Recruit Battalion, Training Regiment; Marine Corps Base at Parris Island, South Carolina. Later he completed his Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Served as a tactical adviser to his Platoon Leader with the First Marine ‘the Old Breed’ Division in the Northwest Pacific Theater of Operations, assigned to Echo Company, Second Battalion and Seventh Marine Regiment. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Imperial Japanese and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1–June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Reported missing in action Friday, May 4, 1945 and his name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at the Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, ‘Punchbowl’ Hawaii. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
