Activity During WWII

He began active service on October 26, 1943. He arrived in England on June 5, 1944. His unit landed on Utah Beach on August 3, 1944 and soon engaged German forces in Normandy. They continued fighting through France, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. He served in Company C, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division. He was very proud to have served under General George S. Patton and in the 'Blue Ridge' division. He fought in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for shrapnel wounds received during March 1945 in Germany. Other medals include the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1946.
