He served as a Technician Fourth Grade in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 399th Infantry Regiment, Medical Detachment, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War and was detained by Germany from January 3, 1945 to June 14, 1945. He was held at Hospital Franzis Kusplatz Prague Bohemia.
