He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served as a ground crew mechanic for the new B-29 Superfortress. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, stationed on Tinian Island. was ground crew of aircraft 'Big Wheel' and 'Heavenly Flower' until the end of the war in 1945.
