Activity During WWII

He served in the Army Air Corps 389th Bomb Group, 567th Bomb Squadron as a Ball Turret gunner. He flew on the B-24 Liberator 'Yankee Rebel' 42-95026. On his last mission, he was a Waist Gunner, 7/25/1944 during Operation Cobra over the St.Lo/Marginy area of France. He was a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft IV, but he may have also been at Stalag Luft VI. he was sent to the firing squad 2 times, escaped from a prison camp, and the sent to the firing squad for a 3rd time. He marched on the 800 mile Black Death March across Germany with his cousin, until they were liberated in France by allied forces.
