He was a Rifleman with Company G, 339th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division. participated in combat action against the enemy in the Northern Apennines, Po Valley, Rome-Arno and Naples-Foggia Campaigns being twice wounded, on 22 May 1944 and 17 October 1944 for which he wears the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
