Worked for the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) in Washington, D.C. for many years before, during and after WWII. During the war in her capacity at the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association), she helped to organize many activities in conjunction with the United Service Organizations (USO) for the benefit and entertainment of U.S. military enlisted personnel in the Washington, D.C. area. While doing so, she met First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt on at least one occasion.
