He entered into active service with the U.S Army on 29 December 1943. He was honorably discharged on 15 February 1946. He served in the Pacific theater of Operations during WWII with Company A, 264th Medical Battalion, 4th Engineer Special Brigade. He was in the New Guinea, Northern Solomon Islands and Luzon campaigns, and also occupied Japan. His decorations/citations include: Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead, and WWII Victory Ribbon.
