He was a professional photographer with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and recorded for posterity the activities of the U.S. Army as it liberated Europe. He personally witnessed the liberation of the concentration camp at Dachau and took photographs of this event. After the war he continued to serve his country in the U.S. Army.
