He served as a Sergeant in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, First Battalion, Company A, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War, being detained by Germany, from December 12, 1944 to June 12, 1945. He was held at Stalag 3B Furstenberg Brandenburg, Prussia (also KDOS (USA) #1-5; ARB BTNS 225-255) 52-14.
