He served as a Technical Sergeant with the 20th Air Force, 314th Bombardment Wing, 29th Bombardment Group, 52nd Bombardment Squadron in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was the top gunner on a B-29 Bomber and flew on 32 Bombing Missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, WWII Victory Medal, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Good Conduct Medal.
