Entered the U.S. Army December 16, 1942. Served as Sherman tank crewman with 4th Armored Division that spearheaded the Third Army's relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He was the only survivor when his tank struck a mine. Discharged from active duty December 28, 1945.
