He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in the Normandy Invasion and as an Assistant Chaplain and Clerk. He served as organist for the 26th Battalion while stationed in Germany. He also acted as accompanist for Dorothy Gaston in England when she made her debut as a concert singer. At the welcoming service given by the French to the American Soldiers at Fontainbleu, France, he played the organ.
