He served as a Private in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 399th Infantry Regiment, First Battalion, Company C, in the European Theater of Operations. Prisoner of War, he was detained by Germany from April 19, 1945 until May 25, 1945. He was held at Stalag 4B Muhlberg Sachsen. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
