He served as a Private First Class in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, Third Battalion, Company K, in the European Theater of Operations. A Prisoner of War, he was detained by Germany from April 5, 1945 until July 20, 1945. He was held at Stalag 5A Malschbach Ludwigsburg Wurtemberg.
