Graduated from West Point in June of 1943 and entered pilot training. Sent to Horsham St. Faith Air Base in January of 1944 as a B-24 pilot with the 458th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. Severely injured on April 22, 1944 while piloting his 11th mission when his aircraft was shot down over England by German intruder aircraft. After recovering he remained a career officer in the Air Force.
