Served with the 457th Bomb Group as a top turret gunner on B-17 'Big Time Operator' piloted by Norman Chapman. He was shot down over Cologne on 17 October 1944 on his 17th Mission and captured. Held at various Prisoner of War camps until he was liberated on May 2, 1945.
