Activity During WWII

Captain Anderson reported for Active Duty on July 1, 1942 to a Medic Unit, Giving Aeromedical Support to the Tuskegee American Fliers, of the 332nd fighter group, stationed at selfridge and oscoda Army Airfields in Michigan. In December 1943, he was assigned as a Flight Surgeon to the groups 301st Squadron, embarking for the Mediterranean Theater, Transported by troop trains to Fort Partrick Henry, Hampton Virginia, Sailing on the SS Clark Mills Liberty Ship, Docking in Augusta Sicily, and Finally Settling in Taranto, Italy. He was one of the six flight sureons who lived under field conditions in sicily and Italy, On March 29th he was reassigned to the 100th squadron with 10 medical technicians stationed at Capodichino airfield, Naples. The field was under attack by German Bombers on April 19,21,24, and 29th resulting in no casulties. In May 1944, his squadron became part of the 15th Air Force flying Bomber escort to Hungary and Romania, then moved to the Ramitellia Base, Combating enemy forces in the Rome-Arno area, and the D-Day landings, taking part in the Normandy Campaigns. He returned from Overseas on June 15th and joined the 118th Army Air Force Base Unit at Gordon Field, Fort Knox, Kentucky where the Tuskegee 477th Bombardment Group was training and planning for the Pacific Theatre. However, with the war ending in August 1945, he was discharged on October 27th, 1945 at Patterson Field, Ohio. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
