Rank: First Lieutenant. Served as an Infantry Officer with the Twenty-Seventh Infantry Division in the Northwestern Pacific Theater of Operations, assigned to Alpha Company, First Battalion, 105th Infantry Regiment, attached to the U.S. Tenth Army. His division participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Saipan (Battle Dates: June 15-July 9, 1944) Mariana Islands Campaign. Killed in action Friday, July 7, 1944 against the Imperial Japanese forces, and buried in a Battlefield Cemetery on Saipan. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, the 604th Quartermaster Graves Registration Company, Quartermaster Corps conducted recovery operations from Saipan, and his remains were not recovered. In September of 2013 a local resident, who resided on Saipan discovered a burial grave, containing some remains American military gear, and other artifacts. The Defense Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Accounting Agency in Hawaii was notified of his findings. Personnel from the agency transferred the remains to their Honolulu’s laboratory for analysis, where he was identified. The family of this Soldier received his remains for burial. He was laid to rest with Military Honors, October 16, 2019 at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. This American Patriot received the following decorations posthumously: Silver Star, Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart. The Silver Star was awarded for Distinguished Gallantry in Action and Valor in Combat against an enemy force, and the Bronze Star awarded for Bravery, Act of Merit and Meritorious Service in Combat. The Purple Heart was awarded, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
