Activity During WWII

Tail gunner, Eighth Air Force, 325th Bomb Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group. An engine on his B-17 (Serial No. 43-37872) was hit by flack over Germany on his first mission on January 8, 1945. The Pilot was able to fly to friendly territory and all crew bailed out and made it to safety. He landed in a tree and broke his back and he was found by a local farmer near Epernay, France, and eventually shipped home to recuperate in a full body cast for about a year. The B-17 went on to crash in a field in Luxembourg.
