Sent to Tinian to supervise the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as part of the 'Tinian Joint Chiefs' including Rear Admiral William R. Purcell and Captain William S. Parsons. Later led teams of scientists to inspect the effects of the atomic bombs. Received the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal.
