Activity During WWII

Commanding Officer of the 8th Marine Regiment. Led his troops in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. In July 1945, he assumed duties as the chief of staff of the 5th Marine Division and took part in the occupation duties in Japan. Received the Legion of Merit with one 5/16" gold star and Combat 'V', Bronze Star Medal with Combat 'V', Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal with two stars, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four 3/16 inch service stars.
