Served in the Engineer Section of Army Ground Force Headquarters in the District of Columbia and helped organize the 80th Infantry Division. He then served as engineer operations officer for General MacArthur’s Sixth Army. From 1944 to 1945 as commander of the 522nd Engineer Construction Brigade, he served six campaigns in the Southwest Pacific Theater including the landing at Leyte. Received Silver Star, Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star, the Commendation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze arrowhead and six battle stars, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and Ribbon with three battle stars, and the Philippine Independence Medal.
