In July 1941, he was transferred to the staff of 1st Provisional Marine Brigade and participated in the occupation of Iceland until 1941. In 1944, he was appointed deputy commander for plans of the Military Government on Guam and later served as deputy commander, U.S. Naval Government, to Okinawa. Received Bronze Star Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, American Defense Medal with Fleet Clasp, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, and Belgian Order of Leopold II, rank Chevalier.
