Served more than three years in the 19th Weather Squadron as a weather observer. He spent two years in West Texas at Pyote Army Air Field, the largest bomber training base in the country. He was shipped out from New York City on VE Day on the Athos II heading to Cairo, Egypt, then sent to bases in Adana and Ankara, Turkey. Received the Good Conduct Medal.
