Received the Legion of Merit with Combat 'V'. He was Commander of a Transport Division in the Solomon Islands. Participated in the initial occupation of Guadalcanal-Tulagi carrying reinforcements and supplies for the American garrison on Guadalcanal. Retired in 1946 as Rear Admiral.
