He was assigned to the 433rd Signal Corps at Hickam Air Force Base and is a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. His job at Hickam was to establish telephone communications. After the attack, his unit managed to get their equipment to safety. It was needed to reestablish the essential communications between the bases. He then served five years in the Pacific Theater, earning the highest rank an enlisted man can achieve, Battalion Sergeant Major. Participated in assignments in Peleliu and Tinian. Received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and bravery in the Battle of Okinawa. He also received an Army Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
