He then participated in the Battle of Midway, Battle of the Coral Sea, Bougainville Campaign, Recapture of Guam, and Battle of Iwo Jima. Received Legion of Merit with Combat 'V', Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one silver and two bronze 3/16" service stars, and Bronze Star Medal with Combat 'V' and one 5/16" Gold Star.
