Major General. During 1935-1940 he commanded an air force wing and an army division. Rated Senior Pilot, Combat Observer, and Technical Observer. On 1944, he commanded the Southern Defense Command and the Western Defense Command. He issued the revocation order of December 17, 1944, rescinding the order for Japanese American internment. Received the Army Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; WWII Victory Medal; Knight of the Order of the Crown of Italy; Grand Officer of the Order of the Southern Cross; Grand Officer of the Order of the Liberator; Commander of the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella; and Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire.
