Served as an intelligence officer, assigned to the Office of Strategic Services. He joined the Eighth U. S. Army Air Force as a captain in the Combat Intelligence Division and saw duty in England and the Mediterranean. He was taken prisoner by the Germans in southern France but escaped when the train transporting him to a Prisoner of War camp came under Allied fire. Received the Legion of Merit.
