Rank: Private First Class. He was inducted into the United States Army September 14, 1943 at Battle Creek, Michigan. Upon his graduation from boot camp at Fort Custer, Michigan and combat infantry training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, he was deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations. Served as a Rifleman with the Americal Division, assigned to Golf Company, Second Battalion and 182nd Infantry Regiment. His division participated in the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf, ‘Battle of Luzon’ against the Imperial Japanese armed forces (Battle Dates: January 9-August 15, 1945) Code Name: S-Day. Killed in Action Friday, March 30, 1945 on the Island of Cebu, a providence of the Philippines, and buried in the United States Armed Forces Cemetery, Leyte #1 Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, the family of this Soldier received his remains for burial, with interment at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro, Michigan. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
