Served as Artillery Commanding officer of 79th Infantry Division. Participated in the Normandy Campaign, Battle of Cherbourg, Battle of Hurtgen Forest, and Rhineland Campaign. After the surrender of Germany, 79th Division participated in the occupation duty in the area of Dortmund and later in Bavaria. Received Legion of Merit, Bronze Stars Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four 3/16 service stars, Knight of the Legion of Honor (France), French Croix de guerre 1939-1945 with Palm, and WWII Victory Medal.
