Activity During WWII

Served in the 1st Marine Division as regimental executive officer. Participated in the Guadalcanal Campaign. Became commanding officer of the 7th Marine Regiment fought in the Solomon Islands Campaign and Battle of Cape Gloucester. Returned to U.S. and was transferred to San Diego, where he was appointed commanding officer of the Training Camp within Camp Pendleton. Sent to Tientsin, China as commanding officer of the 5th Marine Regiment for the occupation of North China. Received the Legion of Merit, Silver Star, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four 3/16" service stars, Navy Cross, WWII Victory Medal, and Order of the Cloud and Banner, 5th Grade.
