Served as liasion officer to Marine Amphibious Corps and took part in the capture and occupation of Rendova Island during New Georgia Campaign. He then became commanding officer of 3rd Defense Battalion and was ordered to Guadalcanal and took part in the Bougainville Campaign. Received Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V", and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four 3/16" service stars.
