He served with the 51st Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division during WWII. He achieved the rank of Corporal during his second enlistment in 1946, assigned to the 32nd Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and earned the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, M1 Marksman Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern medal with bronze star, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the American Defense Medal.
