He served in WWII with the 415th Infantry Regiment (Medical Detachment), 104th Infantry Division. He attained the rank of Sergeant (Technician 4th Grade) as a Combat Medic. During the war he earned the Bronze Star, Combat Medic Badge, M1 Carbine and M1 Garand Marksman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, American Defense Medal and the WWII victory Medal.
